A process for the preparation of 1,4-bis(hydroxymethyl)-2,3,5,6- tetrafluorobenzene comprising fluorinating 2,3,5,6- tetrachloroterephthalonitrile to obtain 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoroterephthalonitrile, hydrogenating 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoroterephthalonitrile to give 1,4- bis(aminomethyl)-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzene and converting 1,4- bis(aminomethyl)-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzene to 1,4-bis(hydroxymethyl)-2,3,5,6- tetrafluorobenzene.

L'invention se rapporte à un procédé de préparation de 1,4-bis(hydroxyméthyl)-2,3,5,6-tétrafluorobenzène consistant à fluorer du 2,3,5,6-tétrachlorotérephtalonitrile de manière à obtenir du 2,3,5,6-tétrafluorotérephtalonitrile, à hydrogéner le 2,3,5,6-tétrafluorotérephtalonitrile de manière à produire du 1,4-bis(aminométhyl)-2,3,5,6-tétrafluorobenzène et à convertir le 1,4-bis(aminométhyl)-2,3,5,6-tétrafluorobenzène en 1,4-bis(hydroxyméthyl)-2,3,5,6-tétrafluorobenzène.
