Abstract of the Disclosure: Caprolactam is prepared by heating a 6-aminocaproic ester at 100-320°C in the pre- sence of a reaction medium comprising an aromatic hydro- carbon which is liquid under reaction conditions and has a boiling point from 80 to 240°C, and isolating capro- lactim from the reaction medium.
