A process for preparation and/or purification of clavulanic acid or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or ester thereof, including the steps of: adding an additional solvent to a solution of clavulanic acid in a water immiscible solvent; contacting the solution with an amine; isolating the amine salt of clavulanic acid formed; and converting the amine salt into clavulanic acid or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or ester thereof.

L'invention concerne un procédé de préparation et/ou de purification de l'acide clavulanique, d'un ester ou d'un sel de celui-ci acceptable sur le plan pharmaceutique, consistant à : ajouter un solvant additionnel à une solution d'acide clavulanique dans un solvant non miscible avec l'eau; mettre la solution en contact avec une amine; isoler le sel amine de l'acide clavulanique formé; et convertir le sel d'amine en acide clavulanique ou en un ester ou un sel de celui-ci acceptable sur le plan pharmaceutique.
