ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Cycloaliphatic or aromatic amines (anilines) are obtained separately or as mixtures by an aminating/hydro- genating reaction of phenols with ammonia and hydrogen over a supported ruthenium, rhodium, palladium or platinum catalyst which may also contain elements from group 1 b, 2 b or 7 b of the periodic table as well as iron, cobalt or nickel, as such or in the form of their compounds, and, preferably, an inorganic base.
