ABSTRACT Compounds, and a process for their preparation, having the following general formula:- Image (I) wherein X is a halogen atom; R1 is an alkyl group of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms; R2 is an alkyl group of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms; or R1 and R2 together represent an alkylene chain of up to 5 carbon atoms; or a salt, anhydride, carboxamide or alkyl (1-6 carbon) ester thereof, which comprises particularly dehalogenating a cyclopropane-carboxylic acid of the following general formula:- Image (II) o- a salt, anhydride, carboxamide or alkyl ester thereof, in the presence of zinc and an alkanoic acid, the symbols R1, R2 and X in formula II having the same meaning as in formula I and Y representing a halogen atom having an atomic number which is the same as or more than that of the halogen atom represented by X. These compounds find use in synthesizing compounds of the pyre- throid type, which are known insecticides.
