ABSTRACT Highly fluorinated compounds are prepared by reacting fluorine with an organic compound having at least one fluorinatable carbon using a fused alumina porus tube. The fluorine is introduced into the porous tube and migrates outwardly. The organic is introduced outside the porous tube. A diluent such as sulfur hexa- fluoride or nitrogen may be used, but is not required. The process is particularly applicable to the production of octafluoropropane.
