By utilizing the process of the present invention, a free-flowing crumb rubber composition can be easily prepared on a commercial scale. This invention more specifically discloses a process for preparing a free-flowing crumb rubber composition which comprises the steps of: (1) adding a wax emulsion to a latex of a rubbery polymer to produce a latex which contains the wax, wherein the wax has a melting point which is within the range of about 40°C to about 175°C; (2) agitating the latex which contains the wax in a manner whereby the wax is distributed throughout the latex; (3) coagulating the latex which contains the wax to produce a slurry of wax coated crumb rubber in water; (4) recovering the wax-coated crumb rubber from the water in the slurry; and (5) drying the wax-coated rubbery polymer in a hot air medium under forced motion to produce the free-flowing crumb rubber composition, wherein the hot air medium is at a temperature which is within the range of about 20°C to about 99°C.
Le procédé de l'invention permet de préparer facilement à l'échelle commerciale du caoutchouc granulaire fluidifiable. L'invention divulgue plus spécifiquement une méthode pour préparer une composition de caoutchouc granulaire fluidifiable, consistant à : 1) ajouter une émulsion de cire à un latex ou à un polymère caoutchouteux pour obtenir un latex renfermant la cire, laquelle a un point de fusion se situant dans une plage de 40 à 175 degrés C environ; (2) agiter le latex renfermant la cire de façon à distribuer celle-ci dans tout le latex; 3) coaguler le latex renfermant la cire pour former une suspension de caoutchouc granulaire enrobé de cire dans l'eau; 4) récupérer le caoutchouc granulaire enrobé de cire à partir de l'eau dans la suspension; 5) faire sécher le polymère caoutchouteux enrobé de cire dans de l'air chaud avec entraînement forcé pour former la composition de caoutchouc granulaire fluidifiable, la température de l'air chaud se situant dans une plage de 20 à 99 degrés C environ.
