SCHMIDT ABSTRACT In the preparation of glycol acetates by the liquid phase reaction of ethylene, molecular oxygen and acetic acid in a catalyst system comprising a variable valent cation in association with bromine, chlorine, a bromine- containing compound, or a chlorine-containing compound, improved operation is achieved by maintaining a level of formic moieties in the liquid feed to the oxidation zone of 3 to 10 weight percent, preferably 4 to 8 weight percent. -1-
