The invention discloses a process for the preparation of a halogenated alcohol of the formula (I): CF3-CXC1-CH(OH)-CH=C(CH3)2 wherein X is bromo or chloro which comprises reacting a compound of the formula (II): CF3CHXC1 with 3-methylbut-2-en-1-al in the presence of a strong base and an inert solvent. The products are useful intermediates for the manufacture of insecticides. 5-Bromo-5-chloro-4-hydroxy-2-methyl-6,6,6-trifluorohex-2-ene is new.

L'invention se rapporte à un procédé de préparation d'un alcool halogéné de la formule (I): CF3-CXC1-CH(OH)-CH=C(CH3)2 dans laquelle X représente bromo ou chloro, ce procédé consistant à faire réagir un composé de la formule (II): CF3CHXC1 avec 3-méthylbut-2-en-1-al en présence d'une base forte et d'un solvant inerte. Ces produits sont des intermédiaires convenant à la préparation d'insecticides. Le 5-bromo-5-chloro-4-hydroxy-2-méthyl-6,6,6-trifluorohex-2-ène est un nouveau composé.
