Described is an apparatus and process for in situ refining of high purity elements in Groups IIA and VIB of the Periodic Table. The refining takes place in a hermetically sealed apparatus containing a distillation zone and a refining zone. The distillation zone contains a feed boat (20) and a heating means (22), while the refining zone contains a collection boat (30) and a heating means (32). Zone refining takes place within the refining zone. The method produces high purity elements containing not more than 100 ppb atomic impurities.

Appareil et procédé d'affinage in situ d'éléments de haute pureté se situant dans les groupes IIA et VIB de la table périodique. L'affinage s'effectue dans un appareil hermétique comprenant une zone de distillation et une zone d'affinage. La zone de distillation comporte une coupelle d'alimentation (20) et des moyens de chauffage (22) et la zone d'affinage, une coupelle de recueil (30) et des moyens de chauffage (32). La zone d'affinage est le siège d'un affinage par zone. Le procédé produit des éléments de haute pureté ne contenant pas plus de 100 pp milliard d'impuretés atomiques.
