Abstract of the Disclosure: 1,2-Benzisothiazolones and their alkali metal salts are prepared by reacting 2,2'- dithiodibenzamides in the presence of oxygen or oxygen donors in an aqueous alkaline medium to which a water-soluble organic solvent may be added and, if desired, freeing the benzisothiazolones from the alkali metal salts with acid.
