ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for producing large beads of a copolymer comprised of from about 60 to 99 weight percent of a mono-vinyl aromatic monomer such as styrene and from about 1 to 40 weight percent of an acrylic acid monomer such as methacrylic acid is disclosed. The copolymer beads obtained in high yield by this process are much larger in diameter than those obtained by prior art methods and are directly suitable for use in molding applications since pelletization is not required. The large beads are produced by adding a small amount of a water-soluble polymer such as polyvinyl alcohol to an aqueous polymerization mixture after about 10 to 75% conversion of the monomers has been achieved.
