ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for the production of a lower alkyl-thio- semicarbazide comprising distilling an aqueous solution con- taining hydrazine and an N-lower alkyl-dithiocarbamic acid quaternary ammonium salt thereby to effect pyrolysis while distilling off water, lower alkyl amine and hydrogen sulfide, and cooling the distilland to form crystals of the lower alkyl-thiosemicarbazide. Advantageously the solution is obtained by reacting carbon disulfide and methylamine in water, followed by addition of hydrazine.
