A process is provided for the preparation of mandelic acid derivatives. The process comprises the steps of: (a) stereoselectively cyanating a compound of Formula (2) to yield the corresponding cyanohydrin; (b) hydrolysing the product of step (a) to the corresponding compound of Formula (1) wherein X is a substituent.

L'invention concerne un processus de préparation de dérivés d'acide mandélique. Le processus comprend les stades suivants : (a) cyaniser stéréosélectivement un composé correspondant à la formule (2) pour obtenir une cyanhydrine correspondante; (b) hydrolyser le produit du stade (a) pour obtenir un composé correspondant ayant la formule (1) dans laquelle X est un substitutif.
