Process for the preparation of N-phosphonomethylglycine salts by reacting a salt of N-phosphonomethyliminodiacetic acid, whereby the salt-forming cation is selected from the group alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, ammonium and organic ammonium, in the presence of oxygen in an aqueous-basic or aqueous solution and in the presence of a noble metal catalyst on a solid carrier, under excess pressure and at elevated temperature, the process being characterised by the fact that (a) the noble metal is selected from the group platinum, palladium or mixtures of palladium and platinum, and platinum or palladium individually or together in a mixture with ruthenium, rhodium, osmium or iridium, and (b) it is additionally admixed with at least one doping metal from the group bismuth, lead, tin, tellurium, germanium, vanadium, chromium, iron, manganese, molybdenum and tungsten. The known herbicide N- phosphonomethylglycine may be prepared from N-phosphonomethyliminodiacetic acid.

Procédé de préparation de sels de N-phosphonométhylglycine consistant à faire réagir un sel de l'acide N-phosphonométhyliminodiacétique, dans lequel le cation formant le sel est sélectionné dans le groupe comprenant les métaux alcalins, les métaux alcalino-terreux, l'ammonium et l'ammonium organique, en présence d'oxygène dans une solution aqueuse basique ou aqueuse, et en présence d'un catalyseur à métal noble sur support solide, sous pression en excès et à température élevée, caractérisé en ce que (a) le métal noble est sélectionné dans le groupe du platine, palladium ou mélanges de palladium et de platine, et platine ou palladium, individuellement, ou tous les deux, dans un mélange avec ruthénium, rhodium, osmium ou iridium, et (b) en outre, en ce qu'on ajoute au moins un métal dopant appartenant au groupe bismuth, plomb, étain, tellure, germanium, vanadium, chrome, fer, manganèse, molybdène et tungstène. L'herbicide connu N-phosphonométhylglycine peut être préparé à partir de l'acide N-phosphonométhyliminodiacétique.
