A process for producing a Gp 2/transition metal olefin polymerisation catalyst component, in which a Gp 2 metal complex is reacted with a transition metal compound so as to produce an oil-in-oil emulsion, the disperse phase containing the preponderance of the Mg being solidified by heating to provide a catalyst component of excellent morphology. Polymerisation of olefins using a catalyst containing such a component is also disclosed. The process may be employed in the production of Ziegler-Natta catalysts.

Procédé de production d'un composant de catalyseur pour la polymérisation d'oléfines qui contient un métal de transition du groupe 2. Le procédé comporte les étapes consistant à mettre à réagir un complexe métallique du groupe 2 avec un composé de métal de transition afin de produire une émulsion huile dans l'huile ; à solidifier par chauffage la phase dispersée contenant la majeure partie de Mg pour obtenir un composant de catalyseur qui présente une excellente morphologie. L'invention concerne aussi la polymérisation d'oléfines au moyen d'un catalyseur utilisant ce composant. Le procédé peut servir à produire des catalyseurs Ziegler-Natta.
