ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A process for the preparation of polyvinyl- pyrrolidone-iodine, wherein a polyvinylpyrrolidone which has been subjected to hydrogenation is mixed with 5 to 25% by weight of iodine at room temperature or up to 50°C. The novel process is particularly suitable for use with low molecular weight polyvinylpyrrolidone, having a K value of from 10 to 20.
