Abstract of the Disclosure: A process for the pre- paration of propylene homopolymers or propylene copoly- mers with other .alpha.-monoolefins by polymerizing the monomer in the presence of hydrogen, using Ziegler-Natta catalyst,in the gas phase in a stirred loose bed, with removal of the heat of polymerization by evaporative cooling, the monomer mixed with hydrogen being introduced into a polymerization kettle (2) and the polymer being discharged from (2),with the provisos that (a) the pressure and temperature in (2) are main- tained within a range corresponding to the gaseous state of the monomer, (b) gaseous unpolymerized monomer mixed with hydrogen is discharged from (2), the monomer is liquefied and stored in a condenser- cooler-accumulator system (5) and is reintroduced into (2), (c) the temperature in the stirred loose bed is regulated by varying the amount of liquid monomer, vap- orizing in (2),which is introduced per unit time, and (d) the monomer consumed is replaced by fresh monomer and the hydrogen required is replenished) wherein, furthermore, (e) liquid monomer is taken from (5) by means of a pump (9), (f) aproportion of the liquidmono- mer taken off by means of (9) is introduced into (2) via an ejector (11), with the liquid monomer as the jetting medium, (g) the gaseous phase remaining in (5) is also fed to (2), via the intake side or (ll),and (h) the amount of the gaseous phase which remains in.(5) and is taken off according to (g) is so regulated that the amount of gaseous phase actually remaining in (5) remains constant with time. The process is prone to few problems, and gives polymers with constsnt proper- ties.
