PREPARATION OF PYRROLE-2-ACETIC ACID DERIVATIVES ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION: Catalytic dehydrogenation of.DELTA.-2,a-pyrrolidene- malonates and A -2,.DELTA.-pyrrolidenemalononitriles yields pyrrole-2-acetates and pyrrole-2-acetonitriles, respective- ly. Subsequent hydrolysis of the latter affords pyrrole-2- acetic acid derivatives of the formula Image wherein R is a member selected from the group consisting of COO(loweralkyl) and CN; Rl is a member selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and loweralkyl, preferably methyl; and R2 is a member selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and methyl. These derivatives find use as anti-inflammatory agents as reported in the literature.
