A process for preparing saccharincarbonyl halides of the formula 1 (see fig. I) where: X is halogen, R1, R2 are each hydrogen, C1-C6-alkyl, C3-C8-cycloalkyl, C1-C4-alkoxy, optionally C1-C4-alkyl-, fluorine- or C1-C4-alkoxy-substituted benzyl or phenyl, R3 is hydrogen, C1-C6-alkyl, C3-C8-cycloalkyl or phenyl or benzyl which is optionally mono- or polysubstituted by C1-C4-alkyl, halogen, C1-C4-haloalkyl or C1-C4-alkoxy, by reaction of an isophthalylsulfonamide 2 with an inorganic acid halide to give the saccharincarbonyl halide 1 (see fig. II) is described.
