Process for the production of TEMDA in high yield by reducing 2,3-dimethyl-2,3- dinitrobutane with hydrogen in the presence of a chromium promoted Raney cobalt catalyst. A solution of 2,3-dimethyl-2,3-dinitrobutane in a suitable solvent is fed to a reactor while avoiding the accumulation of 2,3-dimethyl- 2,3-dinitrobutane in the reaction medium, such as by feeding it at a rate no greater than its rate of reaction with hydrogen. In a preferred embodiment, the resulting TMEDA is recovered by converting it to an amine salt by sparging carbon dioxide through the solution.

L'invention porte sur un procédé à fort rendement de production de TMEDA consistant à réduire du 2,3-diméthyl-2,3-dinitrobutane par de l'hydrogène en présence d'un catalyseur de Raney au cobalt renforcé au chrome. On alimente un réacteur avec une solution de 2,3-diméthyl-2,3-dinitrobutane dans un solvant approprié tout en évitant l'accumulation de 2,3-diméthyl-2,3-dinitrobutane dans le milieu réactif en veillant à ce que le débit de l'apport ne dépasse pas celui de la réaction avec l'hydrogène. Dans l'exécution préférée, on récupère le TMEDA produit en le convertissant en sel d'amine en faisant barboter de CO¿2? à travers la solution.
