Abstract of the Disclosure Vancomycin reacts with phosphoric acid to form a vancomycin diphosphate salt form that is highly crystalline when hydrated. An improved process for isolating vancomycin from an aqueous solution comprises formation of vancomycin diphosphate. Also disclosed is a process for preparing vancomycin hydrochloride which comprises reacting vancomycin diphosphate with a hydrogen chloride source.
