ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Process for preparation of .beta.-glucanase by cultivation of a microorganism in a nutrient, wherein an isolated, selected species of the fungus Rhizomucor pusillus (Lindt) Schipper is used for the preparation of an inoculum, the inoculum then being added to a fermenter with nutrient including nutrient salts, trace materials, and carbon- and nitrogen components so that .beta.-glucanase is produced submersed under aerobic and thermophilic conditions. The enzyme .beta.-glucanase is an important component for degradation of polysaccharides into shorter molecular units.
