PRECIS DE LA DIVULGATION: L'invention concerne un procédé de préparation de trifluoroéthanol par hydrogénation en phase liquide d'acide trifluoracétique caractérisé en ce que l'on opère en pré- sence d'un catalyseur à base de ruthénium, rhodium, irridium ou platine, sous une pression totale comprise entre 5 et 50 bars, avec un rapport du volume de la phase liquide mise en oeuvre dans le réacteur au volume total du réacteur supérieur à 1/2 environ et en ce que l'on maintient pendant la réaction une pression partielle d'hydrogène supérieure à 1 bar absolu.
