ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Process for preparing an electrophotographic element comprising an electrically conductive support and a photoconductive layer comprising a film- forming polymeric binder and a photosensitive azo-compound, in which process the photosensitive azo-compound is synthesized in situ in the film-forming polymeric layer on the support by reaction between a diazonium compound and an azo-coupling component. The azo-compounds thus synthesized are distributed in the binder layer, in an almost homogeneously perfect form. Under a scan- ning electron microscope they are no longer distinguishable as separate par- ticles, not even at a ten thousand fold magnification. The invention also relates to an electrophotographic element prepared according to such a process. Such elements are useful in various types of electrophotographic copying methods.
