A prescription drug printing machine is used by a physician in connection with prescribing one or more prescription drugs to a patient. The printing machine has a memory unit that contains a database of information on all known available prescription drugs, including a colored pictorial representation of each of the available drugs (43). Each of the colored pictorial representations (51) is a substantially similar replica of the drug it depicts. Preferably, the colored pictorial representation is an exact replica of the actual drug, containing the drug's exact color, shape and size. The printing device includes a first and second printing means for printing a prescription drug form and a patient receipt, respectively. Both of the prescription drug form (10) and the patient receipt include the name (40, 50) of the drug, a colored pictorial representation, and other information (FIG. 1). The prescribing physician inspects each of these documents for accuracy before handing them both over to the patient. Patients remit their prescription drug form to a pharmacist and retain the patient receipt for comparison with drugs that are prepared for them by the pharmacist. The printing machine has storage means for storing information concerning the prescription drug form in the memory unit of the printer, in order to keep accurate patient records. The printing device optionally includes translating means for translating the prescription drug information into a foreign language.
Machine d'impression de médicaments prescrits utilisée par un médecin pour prescrire un ou plusieurs médicaments à un patient. Ladite machine d'impression comporte une unité mémoire qui contient une base de données d'informations sur tous les médicaments disponibles connus délivrés sur ordonnance, y compris une représentation graphique en couleur de chaque médicament (43) disponible. Chacune des représentations graphiques en couleur (51) est une réplique pratiquement similaire au médicament qu'elle décrit. De préférence, la représentation graphique en couleur est une réplique exacte du médicament effectif, représentant la couleur, la forme et la taille exactes du médicament. Le dispositif d'impression comporte des premier et second moyens d'impression pour imprimer respectivement un formulaire d'ordonnance de médicaments et un reçu à l'intention du patient. Le formulaire (10) d'ordonnance de médicaments et le reçu pour le patient comportent le nom (40, 50) du médicament, une représentation graphique en couleur et d'autres informations (FIG. 1). Le médecin établissant l'ordonnance inspecte chacun de ces documents pour vérifier leur exactitude avant de les délivrer tous les deux au patient. Les patients remettent le formulaire d'ordonnance de médicaments à un pharmacien et gardent le reçu pour le patient en vue d'une comparaison avec les médicaments préparés pour eux par le pharmacien. La machine d'impression possède une mémoire destinée au stockage d'informations concernant le formulaire d'ordonnance de médicaments dans l'unité mémoire de l'imprimante, afin de conserver des enregistrements exacts sur les patients. Ledit dispositif d'impression comporte éventuellement des moyens de traduction destinés à la traduction des informations relatives aux médicaments délivrés sur ordonnance dans une langue étrangère.
