ABSTRACT Preservative for drinking water is composed of silver-plated coral sand, which contains silver by weight of about 0.01 to 5 percent. The silver plating is preferably carried out by means of sputtering. The silver-plated coral sand preservative has a strong sterilizing power against bacteria in water and can maintain or even improve water quality over a long period and which can render the pH of water weakly alkaline and mineralize water.
