Apparatus is described for dewatering pressing of a mat of solid material, wetted with water, in manufacturing solid panels, particularly fiber panels. A dewatering press with an upper press section and a lower press section has a powered mesh band guided through the dewatering press and driven by stationarily arranged return drums, for feeding the mat of solid material, with an endless lath grate band guided around the lower press section and an endless sealing band also guided around the lower press section, on a return means. The return means for the lath grate band and the return means for the sealing band are journaled in stationary machine frames arranged ahead of and behind the dewatering press. At least the lath grate band is guided through a cleaning bath, which is below the rails of the dewatering platen press.
