- 1 - Abstract: A method for press molding a thermoplastic resin in a mold having upper and lower halves that are respectively attached to upper and lower platens of a vertically operating press comprises supplying a resin melt into a cavity in the mold while unclosed through at least one passage formed in a wall of one of the mold halves. The supplied resin melt contacts surfaces of the mold halves and the resin melt is pressed in the mold by closing or staring to close the mold when the supply of resin melt is finished. Ultimately the molded resin is cooled in the mold. The method produces molded articles having better surface and mechanical properties and a high production rate.
