A press section of a paper machine and a method for draining moisture from a paper web. The device and method provide for the transfer of a paper web from a first roll to a second roll without free stretch. The device may include a non-water absorbent, preferably hydrophobic, belt for transferring the paper web to the second roll. The belt may also include an air permeable material to enable aeration of the paper web through the belt.
