A B S T R A C T A tap operated by a push button (22, 82, 102, 122, 162) which acts to open a valve member (20, 76, 106, 126, 166) which is biassed to the closed position, the valve member being for normal operation of the tap; also operated by the push button is a seal opening means (36, 86, 114, 134, 174); the seal opening means opens a tap inlet (34, 68, 116, 136, 176) on initial operation only of the push button; the opening means may either pierce a diaphragm (14, 92) in or adjacent the inlet or cause a plug (110, 130, 170) to open. The arrangement ensures an added protection against oxygen penetrating into a container fitted with the tap and is particularly useful for wine containers, the added protection ensuring longer shelf life.
