ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A diaphragm-type hydraulic press comprising a press stand having a substantially rectangular cross-sectional space therein; a first pressure cell positioned within the space, the pressure cell comprising a press plate within which are positioned a first diaphragm and an elastomeric pad, the first diaphragm being capable of expanding the first elastomeric pad into the space, a second pressure cell positioned within the space and oppositely to the first pressure cell, the second pressure cell comprising a lower part and an upper part with a substantially enclosed cavity therebetween, a second diaphragm positioned in the cavity and capable of expanding the upper part into the space; a trough-spaced supporting member containing a form in the trough, and means for moving the trough-shaped supporting member into and out of the substantially rectangular cross-sectional space with the trough facing the first pressure cell, the second pressure cell operable to lift the trough- shaped member towards the first pressure cell when the trough- shaped member is in the space.
