Abstract In order to sinter a cutter insert (1) that has free areas (3) inclined at a positive free angle (.alpha.) relative to its bearing surface (2) and whose cutting edges (5) are at an angle of slope (.lambda.), a green compact is used, the part of which that is remote from the bearing surface--corresponding to the reverse shrinkage ratio of the sinter material--corresponds exactly to the part of the cutter insert (1) that is remote from the bearing surface (2). A press tool (10) that consists of an upper die (12), a lower die (13), and a matrix (11) is used to press the green compact. The compression surface of the upper die (12) corresponds exactly--in reverse to the shrinkage ratio of the sintering material--to the actual surface (7, 8) of the upper side of the cutter insert (1). In the lowest working position of the upper die (12), above the defining line (21) of its compression surface (20) and--adjacent to these--between the upper die (12) and the matrix (11) there is an empty space (31).
