An annular seal assembly includes a primary seal housing. An annular primary seal element is positioned within the primary seal housing. At least one secondary seal housing is axially aligned with and detachably secured to the primary seal housing. An annular secondary seal element is positioned within each secondary seal housing. A pressure source for energizing each secondary seal element with pressurized gas is provided.
