A pressure- and heat-sensitive multilayer copying paper is useful as a recording material for various types of recording machines, such as a portable terminal. This copying paper comprises an upper paper member composed of: a substrate sheet; a layer on a front surface of the substrate sheet comprising an organic compound and an acidic organic compound; a layer on a back surface of the substrate sheet comprising an organic compound, a microcapsule encapsulating the organic compound and a thermomeltable material; and an overcoated protective layer on the layer on the back surface of the substrate sheet; and a lower paper member comprising a substrate sheet; a layer on a front surface of the substrate sheet comprising at least one acidic organic compound which forms color when it reacts with the organic compound.
