A lock mechanism is mounted in a housing in which a latch bolt is guidingly retained and having an engageable end spring biased outwardly of a side wall of the housing. A bolt retracting mechanism is secured to a spindle adapted to retract the free end of the bolt within the housing. A driver hub is connected to the spindle and a motor driven clutch mechanism is provided for interconnecting the driver hub to a driven hub adapted to retract the bolt when the clutch mechanism is actuated to a bolt retracting position. When the clutch mechanism is actuated to a bolt engaged position it disconnects the driven hub from the driver hub. The clutch mechanism has an articulated spring biased linkage to permit the clutch to move to the bolt retracting position regardless of the position of the driver hub which is connected to the spindle which is rotatable by the lock handle, or to move to the bolt engaged position regardless of the position of the driver hub.
