ABSTRACT A two step pressure intensifer system made up of three operative piston and cylinder arrangements in coaxial alignment and having a common piston rod to which the pistons of each unit are secured for movement in unison. The first piston and cylinder unit being operated by application of fluid pressure from an external source, to move the piston rod in a working stroke direction, the cylinders of the second and third units being in open communication for a predetermined distance of movement of the piston rod in the working stroke direction and containing a working fluid medium, the piston of the third unit being clear of the cylinder of the third unit during said predetermined distance and thereafter entering the cylinder of the third unit to close off the communication. The second piston and cylinder unit being provided with a predetermined pressure bleed. The system provides a reliable, economical and single pressure intensifier operable over a wide range of source pressures since no predetermined pressure responsive valves are employed.
