2149908 9412423 PCTABS00032 A pressure pad can be used in a particularly advantageous manner in underground mining with shield-type support for temporarily propping the ground, for aligning and lifting heavy parts and for timbering drifts, tunnels or comparable cavities within rocks. The pressure pad has an at least partially flexible envelope (12) which contains a plurality of chambers (22). A fluid may be introduced inside the chambers (22) by an appropriate arrangement in order to support the envelope (12) against pressure strains from outside. In order to simplify production and handling, the chambers are designed as sections of a pressure hose which is preferably folded up inside the envelope in a special manner. This pressure pad may be inflated in a very short time, preferably with compressed air, in order to temporarily support excavations, for example.
