ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A device is provided for reconstructing a keel profile of a moving ice floe. The device includes a float moored to the bottom of the body of water and adapted to be restrained to be completely below the surface of the water and to be en- gageable by the bottom surface of an ice floe. A pressure transducer is operatively connected to the float. Electronic means are coupled to the pressure transducer for providing a first output reading representative of the depth to which said float is suspended below the surface of the water, and a second output reading representative of another depth to which the float is depressed below the surface of the water upon the contact with the bottom surface of the ice floe. In this way, the degree and velocity of ice floe encroachment on drillships in Artic regions can be determined.
