A pressure sensor assembly for measuring a pressure and a method of constructing the pressure sensor assembly, the assembly including a housing having a cavity defined by a recessed surface and a sidewall extending therefrom. A pressure sensor is mounted to the recessed surface. The pressure sensor includes a sensing bridge and an amplifier circuit. A flexible elastomeric diaphragm is mounted on the housing above the recessed surface to form a seal with the housing and to enclose the cavity. The pressure sensor assembly also includes a medium deposited between the recessed surface and the diaphragm. The medium transmits the pressure on the diaphragm to the pressure sensor. At least one terminal is mounted in the housing to provide an external electrical connection for the pressure sensor and to provide a fluid tight seal with the housing.
