(57) Abstract In coating devices for paper or cardboard webs (2) having a doctor blade (3) as dosing element, flexible pressure strips (5) that rest on the doctor blade (3) are used to allow the contact pressure of the doctor blade (3) to be regulated. The pressure strip (5) has a surface moment of inertia (1x) measured in the perpendicular direction to the flexure plane comprised be- tween 100 mm4 and 5000 mm4, preferably between 800 mm4 and 1200 mm4. A locally differentiated contact pressure can thus be regulated without causing coating irregularities at high speeds of the web. The adjusting elements for the pres- sure strip (5) have an axially movable adjusting rod (8) push a pres- by a holder (7). The ends of the adjusting rod (8) push a pres- tressed pressure spring (12). An adjustable screw (16) coaxial- ly arranged with respect to the adjusting rod (8) presses against the force of the spring (12) in the direction of the web
