An engine component (10) of the type having a cavity (54) therein through which cooling water can circulate, there being ports (56) which lead from a face (52) of the engine component into the cavity, is pressure tested by closing the ports and by pressing port closing elements (32) onto the face so as to blank off the ports. The cavity in then pressurised and the engine component observed for seepage of water or the appearance of bubbles. The port closing elements are pressed onto the face by means of a transparent, laminated glass plate (40) which is held in a steel frame (34) by means of an elastomeric adhesive (42). Between the glass plate and a pressure bearing face of the steel frame there is a layer of elastomeric material (38).
On soumet à des tests de pression un élément (10) de moteur, du type doté d'une cavité (54) à travers laquelle de l'eau de refroidissement peut circuler, des orifices (56) étant ménagés qui conduisent d'une face (52) de l'élément de moteur dans la cavité, en fermant ces orifices et en appliquant par pression des éléments (32) de fermeture d'orifices sur ladite face, de manière à obturer les orifices. On met ensuite la cavité sous pression et on observe l'élément de moteur à la recherche d'infiltrations d'eau ou d'apparition de bulles. Les éléments d'obturation des orifices sont pressés sur la face au moyen d'une plaque (40) de verre transparente stratifiée qui est maintenue dans un cadre (34) d'acier grâce à un adhésif élastomère (42). On a placé une couche de matériau élastomère (38) entre la plaque de verre et une face du cadre d'acier supportant la pression.
