A medical sensor (8) responds to a predetermined condition, such as pressure against a human body area susceptible to ulcer formation, and provides wireless communication of the sensing of the condition. The sensor (8) includes a resonant circuit (12) which is applied to the sensitive area of the human body, and is energized by electromagnetic induction. An electromagnetic wave transmitter (20) of a monitoring system (14) is disposed adjacent a support (6) for the human body (2). A resonant signal detector (22) is disposed adjacent the support (6). The monitoring system (14) can also include a controller (30) that can compute an exposure time value, and a shift frequency value. An electromagnetic field (24) is provided across a region of the patient (2) on the support (6). Resonant signals are propagated in response to the predetermined condition, the electromagnetic field, and are wireless communicated to the resonant signal detector (22).
