A pressure vessel for housing components of a metal gas cell is constructed by rolling a metal sheet to abut two edges which are then secured together by a weld seam. A circumferential lip is provided on each end of the generally cylindrical container thus formed. A first hydroformed hemi- spherical end portion closes one end of the container by means of a ring interposed between and welded to the end portion and the corresponding lip. A second hydroformed hemispherical end portion closes the other end of the container by means of a second ring interposed between and welded to the second end portion and the other lip.
