The present invention relates to compositions and methods for preventing and treating osteochondrosis by administration of supplemental boron containing compounds to animals and humans. The supplemental boron containing compounds are provided in animal feed compositions or as supplements for animal feed. Also provided by this invention are animal feed compositions that are supplemented with boron containing compounds and which have reduced phosphorus content. The invention also provides a method for treating or preventing osteochondrosis in animals or humans by the administration of supplemental boron containing compounds. The invention also provides a method for decreasing the amount of phosphorus excreted by an animal, a method of increasing the efficiency of absorption of phosphorus by an animal, a method of reducing environmental phosphorus pollution by administering supplemental boron to the animal. The invention also provides a method of reducing pre- weaning mortality in an animal by feeding pregnant, nursing or lactating animals by administering supplemental boron containing compounds.
La présente invention concerne des compositions et des méthodes de prévention et de traitement de l'ostéochondrose par administration de composés complémentaires contenant du bore à des animaux et des êtres humains. Ces composés se trouvent dans des compositions d'aliments pour animaux ou se présentent sous forme de suppléments pour aliments pour animaux. Ladite invention a, également, pour objet des compositions d'aliments pour animaux qui sont complétées avec des composés contenant du bore et qui possèdent un contenu en phosphore réduit. Cette invention a, aussi, trait à une méthode de traitement ou de prévention de l'ostéochondrose chez des animaux ou des êtres humains par administration de composés complémentaires contenant du bore. L'invention concerne, en outre, un procédé de diminution de la quantité de phosphore rejeté par un animal, un procédé d'augmentation de l'efficacité d'absorption de phosphore par un animal, un procédé de réduction de la pollution environnementale au phosphore par administration d'un supplément de bore à l'animal. Enfin, cette invention a pour objet un procédé de diminution de la mortalité avant le sevrage chez un animal, ledit procédé consistant à nourrir des animaux gravides, en lactation et, parallèlement, à leur administrer des composés complémentaires contenant du bore.
