PREVENTION OF DISCOLORATION ON CEMENTITIOUS AND MASONRY CONSTRUCTION PRODUCTS Abstract the Disclosure An economical method of protecting masonry and cementitious construction products, such as portland cement-wood fiber composite roofing shakes (10), prevents the release of by-products which deposit on and cause discoloration of nearby construction products. A protective layer is applied, for example, to only a selected portion (28) of a back surface (14) of a roofing product. The front surface (12) of the roofing product is typically protected by paint, and portions of the rear surface are protected by other overlapping roofing products. The protective layer prevents efflorescence by sealing the surface and binds any surface layer imperfections to the bulk of the roofing product.
