Preventive or therapeutic agents for severe diabetic retinopathy containing as the active ingredient hydantoin derivatives represented by the general formula (I), which agents are useful mainly as inhibitors against the evolution into nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy and/or proliferative diabetic retinopathy or inhibitors against the progression of nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy and/or proliferative diabetic retinopathy: (I) wherein X is halogeno or hydrogen; and R1 and R2 may be the same or different and are each hydrogen or optionally substituted C1-6 alkyl, or R1, R2 and the nitrogen atom optionally together with an additional nitrogen or oxygen atom may form a 5- or 6-membered heterocycle.

Agents préventifs ou thérapeutiques pour la rétinopathie diabétique sévère contenant comme ingrédient actif des dérivés de l'hydantoïne représentés par la formule générale (I), lesquels agents sont utiles principalement comme inhibiteurs vis-à-vis de l'évolution en rétinopathie diabétique non proliférante et/ou en rétinopathie diabétique proliférante ou comme inhibiteurs vis-à-vis de la progression d'une rétinopathie diabétique non proliférante et/ou d'une rétinopathie diabétique proliférante : (I) dans laquelle X est un halogéno ou un hydrogène ; et R?1¿ et R?2¿ peuvent être identiques ou différents et sont chacun un hydrogène ou un alkyle en C¿1-6? facultativement substitué ou bien R?1¿, R?2¿ et l'atome d'azote et facultativement avec un atome d'azote ou d'oxygène supplémentaire peuvent former un hétérocycle à 5 ou 6 éléments.
