Preventives and remedies for complications of diabetes which contain as the active ingredients compounds represented by the following general formula (1) or lactone derivatives thereof: (1) wherein R represents an organic group; X represents CH2CH2- or CH=CH-; and M represents hydrogen, C1-10 alkyl or a physiologically acceptable cationic group. These drugs are useful in preventing and treating complications of diabetes such as diabetic nephropathy, diabetic neuropathy, diabetic retinopathy and diabetic angiopathy.
