-20- ABSTRACT PRIMARY PATTERNS AND LASTS FOR FOOTWEAR MANUFACTURE In the manufacture of footwear a method of determining the basic shape of a series of patterns or lasts in which the length of the profile is divided at a zero point (1) into a rear position of substantially two thirds of the length and a front portion of substantially one third of the length, and the series of shapes have a substantially constraint front portion and a rear portion of a basic shape but at different heights pivotted relative to the front portion about an elevation point (2) adjacent the zero point. A last shape can be made from such a profile template together with transverse section templates and a series of sole shapes to fit such lasts can also be determined from basic lines and curves of the foot.
