ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A primary suspension system for a railway car comprises a combined spring formed of two or more leaf springs having an elongate liner element disposed therebetween to provide damping. The combined spring is joined at opposite ends to top and bottom portions of a side frame of the car and is configured to provide vertical and horizontal portions for vertical and longitudinal compliance. A portion of the leaf spring is curved to wrap around a portion on the wheel journal bearing and rest on the top thereof.
